The seaside community of Spring Lake, New Jersey, is a popular summer spot, thanks to its low-key sandy beaches and peaceful boardwalk. The town was once a Victorian-era summer resort, and is full of gorgeous period houses and historic inns. The main beach is Spring Lake Beach, a quiet stretch of sand by a no-frills boardwalk—the largest non-commercial boardwalk in the state, in fact—and dotted with a few pavilions and concession stands. The historic inns are also worth a visit even if you're not a guest; Chateau Inn Suites, the Normandy Inn, and the Spring Lake Inn all harken back to Spring Lake's Victorian heyday.

Then, of course, there's the real estate, which includes a mix of multimillion dollar beach houses, bungalows, and historic houses.
