The town of Old Saybrook was once Katharine Hepburn's regular summer spot. In fact after she died, her house became a museum, dubbed the Kate. It's easy to see why Hepburn was so drawn to Old Saybrook: It sits on the Long Island Sound right at the mouth of the Connecticut River, and is full of rocky beaches and gorgeous views.

Harvey Beach, located right in Old Saybrook, is a population beach destination, as are West Beach and Rocky Neck State Park, which are in neighboring towns. Old Saybrook also has a couple of picturesque lighthouses, like the Lynde Point Lighthouse and Saybrook Breakwater Light.

Beaches and lighthouses aside, Old Saybrook's got a lovely Main Street stocked with galleries, restaurants, taverns, and bed-and-breakfasts, including the Deacon Inn and Tearoom, which is in a colonial building supposedly constructed in 1746. Eateries of note include Fresh Salt, located in the Saybrook Inn; and Aspen Restaurant and Bar, which serves sustainable American fare.

Old Saybrook's also a prime boating town thanks to its proximity to the Connecticut River, and the town has several marinas. If you're interested in anchoring close to the yachting scene, consider the three-bedroom, three-bath house at 5 Rocky Point Rd., now on the market for $749,000.

The house is next to a local marina; it's also beautifully constructed, with a open-concept living space with nine-foot ceilings and a full wall of windows.

Look at those windows.

There's a rustic-looking kitchen with a wood-paneled ceiling and wood cabinets.

There's a lot of counter space here.

There's a nice light-filled living space with built-in bookshelves and big windows.

There's also a handsome fireplace.

There's an office area with wood-trimmed, floor-to-ceiling windows as well.

Look at that staircase.

The spacious master bedroom has a wood-paneled ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows. There's also a spiral staircase leading to a small loft.

Here's the room, which has a vaulted ceiling.

And here's a closer look at the staircase.

The master bath has wood trim and his-and-hers sinks.

Along with a handsome jetted tub that sits under a skylight. There's a standalone shower as well, though that's not pictured here.

Here are the other two bedrooms.

It looks like there's an unfinished basement you could transform into another living space.

Outdoor space includes multiple decks.

And here's the whole house with a view of the marina.

The house is a two-hour drive from Manhattan.
