It's the start of ski season at last, and New York City is within driving distance of one of the best ski spots in the country, the town of Killington, located deep in Vermont's Green Mountains. Killington's home to both the Killington and Pico Mountain downhill ski resorts, where everyone from apprehensive beginners to Olympic medalists can take lessons from experts and practice their stuff on a wide range of slopes.

There's more to Killington than skiing, of course, even though the sport is certainly a highlight. Killington is also home to the Thundering Falls Trail, a picturesque hike that'll take you to the sixth tallest waterfall in Vermont; there's also the breathtaking Gifford Woods State Park, which is a popular stopping point along the Appalachian Trail, and Lefferts Pond, where visitors can partake in outdoor activities like hiking, biking, horseback riding, boating, and picnicking. Thrill-seekers can hit up the Killington Adventure Center, where you can ride roller coasters, Alpline tubes, and ziplines.

Killington's got some great local eateries, like The Lookout Tavern, which serves brews and pub grub, and popular brunch spot Back Country Café. There are local shops and nearby outlet malls, in addition to art galleries and sporadic boutiques. And, of course, there's the real estate, which ranges from ski-ready condos to luxury mountain houses with all the fixings. Consider, for instance, this three-bed, five-bath mountain house at 75 Gina Dr., now on the market for $965,000. The house was built in 2016 and has a windowed open-concept living area with wood accent walls, hardwood floors, and a granite fireplace.

Here it is from the other side—you can see the wood detailing on the staircase here, and there are doors leading to a small wooden deck, also pictured below.

The dining area is also window-lined and flows right into the kitchen.

The kitchen is custom-built and outfitted with soapstone countertops, stainless appliances, hickory cabinets, and iridescent glass tile backsplash.

This is the well-lit master bedroom, located on the main level.

The master bath has his-and-hers sinks and a glass-door shower.

Upstairs, there's a cozy, carpeted reading room.

Here's another bedroom.

And another bath, this one also with a glass-enclosed shower.

There's a finished walkout level with a second family room and kitchenette.

There's also an exercise studio with a ballet bar and wall of mirrors, which is a nice extra touch.

It looks like there's another full bath in the walkout level as well.

In addition to a laundry room and utility room.

And a mudroom outfitted with locker-style cubbies with built-in ski boot dryers, which is pretty cool.

Outdoor space includes a stream-fed pond, stone patio, and outdoor hot tub.

And there's a fire pit you can enjoy in cold weather.

The house is just under a five-hour drive from Manhattan.
