Bedford, New York is a town in Westchester County, located close to Mount Kisco and New Castle. It's known for its wealthy and often famous residents—Bedford's been home to Ralph Lauren, Martha Stewart, Glenn Close, and Chevy Chase, to name a few, and Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds currently live in nearby Pound Ridge.

Bedford and its neighboring communities boast a lot of nature, with highlights including the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, a 4,315-acre park that's the biggest in Westchester County; the 935-acre Mianus River Gorge Preserve; and the John Jay Homestead, former home of John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the United States, which has a substantial park.

Other Bedford highlights include the Bedford Post Inn, a romantic hotel co-owned by Richard Gere that includes brunch spot The Barn and more upscale eatery The Farmhouse. There's also Truck, which serves Southwestern fare, and Bedford 234, which serves locally-inspired dishes.

Then, of course, there's the real estate—Bedford's got a whole host of sweeping mansions for well-heeled residents, but you can still find some great spots priced closer to what you would pay for a median-priced apartment in Manhattan, with more space and romance to boot. Consider, for instance, this 1900-built farmhouse at 2 Middle Patent Rd., now on the market for $1,099,000. The renovated house has three bedrooms and three baths.

It features vintage touches like wide oak floors and crown moldings, but has been otherwise completely updated, as you can see from the kitchen, which has been outfitted with stainless steel appliances, marble counters, and center island.

The living room's got a coffered ceiling, gas fireplace, and massive windows.

There's wood detailing on this staircase railing.

The formal dining room is outfitted with hardwood floors and large windows.

The wallpaper here is incredible.

There's a little mudroom with a tiled floor.

This looks like it's the master bedroom.

The master bath has his-and-hers sinks and is finished with Carrera marble.

Here are two more bedrooms.

And another bath.

There's also a guest suite on the third floor, with vaulted ceilings and space for an additional bedroom.

It's not clear from the listing where this office area is located.

The house sits on two acres, and has a large, tree-lined yard.

There are also some trees framing the house.

Other highlights include a heated pool with a lounge area, surrounded by perennial gardens.

This looks like part of the old farm.

The house is about an hour's drive from Manhattan.
