Whether ‘tis nobler to pee in the bedroom or the hallway….

A debate on Brownstoner caught our eye this afternoon:  Is it better to have a hall bathroom or an en suite one?

We submit that this is a NYC-only issue as pretty much every master bedroom we've seen outside the city seems to come with a commode.

Having lived each side of the equation as one-half of a married couple with child (en suite in the ‘burbs, hall bath in the city), we can see both sides.  En suite is convenient at intimate moments and when guests are around.  But who wants to hear a shower, hairdryer, electric toothbrush, etc., at 6 a.m. when you don’t have to get up till 9?

Here’s how the chips fell on Brownstoner:

Hall bath:  Good for peace & quiet, but low on privacy.

En suite bath: Convenient but noisy if a couple shares the bedroom.  On the other hand, you don’t have to share with kids or guests, and en suite arrangements make the master bedroom feel more luxurious and private.  Not a good option if this is your only bathroom.
