This two-bedroom Upper West Side rental is a transit triple threat

Aside from the Renaissance Revival elegance that abounds in the Apthorp—the Upper West Side development is a designated landmark, and features an ornate limestone facade, dramatic wrought iron gates, and an interior courtyard—living here means you'll have no problem getting around the city. The building is directly above the 1 train and next to a bus stop at 79th Street, and among its many amenities is a porte-cochere for private drop-offs and on-site parking. The price of all this convenience? The two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath rental is listed by Brown Harris Stevens for $17,000 per month.

The Apthorp was built at the turn of the century for William Waldorf Astor, and its Gilded Age origins are evident in details like intricate crown moldings and chandeliers, original mosaic tile in the foyer, and marble fireplace in the living room. The kitchen boasts more classic elegance with its herringbone floors and glass-doored cabinetry, as well as plentiful prep and storage space, and contemporary stainless steel appliances.

There's also a separate dining room large enough for grand entertaining—but note that if you use it as such, then you're down a bedroom. (The second bedroom mentioned in the listing is actually this room, worth noting considering the steep rent. It does come with a closet and en-suite bath.)

The master bedroom has a dramatic look, with its ceiling beams and elaborate decorative fireplace; large south-facing windows look like they bring in lots of light. There's also a walk-in closet and marble-lined attached bath. You can see here, too, how the second room would look configured as a bedroom, but remember this would mean squeezing a dining area into the kitchen or living room.

The unit also includes a laundry area with washer and dryer off the kitchen; amenities in the property range from doorman service, a spa and gym, a yoga studio, and a children's playroom. As for outdoor space, you're right by Riverside Park and not far from Central Park, and of course, you can hop right on the subway and go exploring.
