Attention seniors: Affordable housing for people over 62 is opening up in Queens

The apartments are in a senior housing complex on 101st Street in Corona.

Applications are open for 46 apartments in a new senior housing complex in Corona, Queens.

The building is 68 apartments in all, at 54-17 101st St. The apartments are reserved for people 62 and older at the following income levels: single people making $0-$33,400 a year, and couples and two-person households (at least one person must be a senior) making $0-$38,200 a year. The apartments are studios and one bedrooms. People who are selected will pay 30 percent of their income towards rent. 

The complex includes a community room, laundry, an outdoor area, and senior-oriented features including seated showers and rail bars. It will also have social services and community programming. The building is on the site of a former community garden, which has been moved to a smaller lot on the block.

Simeone Park is at the end of the block, Flushing Meadows Corona Park is a half mile away, and the Queens Center mall and Woodhaven Boulevard E, M, R stop are about a mile away.

If you're interested and think you might qualify for an apartment, you can create a profile and apply online via NYC Housing Connect. You can also request an application by mail by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to HANAC Corona Senior Residence, P.O. Box 249, 135 S. Black Horse Pike, Williamstown, NJ 08094. Applicants must be 62 or older.

Don't apply more than once, or you could be disqualified.
