Applications are open for 24 discounted apartments in the University Heights neighborhood of the Bronx through the city's affordable housing lottery.

The apartments are part of a 136-unit building on Landing Road, near West Fordham Road, the Major Deegan Expressway, and the University Heights Bridge. The development is also set to include a 200-bed shelter for working homeless people to get back on their feet.

The units opening up are one and two bedroom set aside for households making $26,949-$57,240, with one bedrooms priced at $714 a month.

The development is a 15-minute walk from the Fordham Road 4 station, and across the street from Bronx hotspots Salsa Con Fuego and the Fordham Road Dallas BBQ. Devoe Park and Bronx Community College are also nearby.

The inclusion of a homeless shelter in the project has angered some neighbors.
