Big news for East New York's ongoing re-development, and for affordable housing options in the neighborhood: Applications have just opened up for 259 rentals in Gateway Elton III, the third phase of a massive new project on the site of a former landfill. The newest apartment options are located at 1062 Elton Street and 475 Locke Street, with options ranging from $494/month studios to $1,322/month four-bedrooms for renters with household incomes between $18,275 and $71,760, depending on apartment and family size.

See below for the full list of apartment sizes, prices, and income requirements:

The listing notes that the building will feature a fitness center, laundry rooms, a "wi-fi lounge," and, for extra fees, parking and a bike room. As we've written previously, the new buildings incorporate green technology, and when the entire complex is complete, there will be over 60,000 square feet of community space including options for restaurants, groceries, and daycare.

Preference for half the rentals will be given to current residents of Brooklyn's Community Board 5, and applications are due September 2nd. If you're interested and think you qualify, you can create a profile and apply online via NYC Housing Connect, or request a paper application by sending a self-addressed envelope to Elton Owner III, LLC, c/o Gateway Elton, 1166 Elton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11208.
