Would You Rather?

Would you rather have a big kitchen or a big dining room?

Having a formal dining room, is appealing, but what about if it comes at the expense of a kitchen?

Thanksgiving is around the corner, and with it comes a chance to strut your stuff in the kitchen. But what if your counter space is the size of a postage stamp? And where will you serve the dinner?

If you had the choice, would you rather have a big kitchen to cook in or a big dining room with plenty of space for friends to sit around the table and kibitz? It's a tough one, and we turned to our fellow New Yorkers to see what they had to say.

My goal is to have a dining room to entertain in

"I could make a meal for two or 20 in any size kitchen so I’d rather have a dining room to entertain in. You can kick up a table setting in so many creative ways, and the more the merrier. It’s all about friends, family, and wine!"—Jennifer Paquette, Upper West Side (pictured)

My dream apartment has a massive kitchen

"Right now I don’t have a large kitchen or a dining room so I speak from experience when I say I’d much rather continue eating dinner on the couch than having to use my oven to store pots and pans, and the edge of the kitchen sink to assemble my meals. Having a nice big kitchen makes cooking fun. Eating is fun no matter where you are."—Chelsea Ford, Upper East Side

Is Seamless involved?

"Since I'm not the biggest cook, I would prefer a dining room to eat in. I rep restaurants in the city and tend to order Seamless more than the average Seamless user, so I usually have other people do the cooking for me. I also love to entertain and have friends over, so having an area to dine and sit down in would be a lot easier and a better use of space."—Brianna Vaccaro, Upper East Side

A bigger kitchen has to mean second dates, right?

"I like to think I’m a pretty good cook, which is made difficult by my 18-inch wide (I measured) kitchen. Maybe if I had a bigger kitchen to perfect my cooking skills I’d get a second date every once in a while. Plus, a big dining room would require me to have the money to buy a table like an adult."—Cameron Morgan, Gramercy Park

I would not complain if I had an HGTV-worthy kitchen

"To me, the perfect kitchen would have a 48-inch range complete with a griddle and racks that slide out seamlessly on ball-bearings. Hands down, I’d want a large kitchen to cook in because, let’s face it, I do believe that with a large kitchen I’d have a dining room, too. Just sayin'."—Nancy Freedman, Greenwich Village

Verdict

It was close, but a majority of these New Yorkers want to get cooking—they just need more kitchen space to get the job done.
