This week, our most popular stories were the ones that looked at the impact of the new rent laws on landlords and tenants. Most of the changes affect rent-stabilized tenants, but market-rate renters gained several advantages as well—including a cap on security deposits and a ban on the practice of asking for “last month’s rent.”

Landlords are alarmed, to put it mildly, about what this will do to their ability to maintain buildings.

Here, in full, are the week's top stories:

1) Landlords can't ask for 'last month's rent' plus security deposit, thanks to new rent laws

2) Ask Sam: My landlord has added several riders to my rent-stabilized lease. Is that legal? [sponsored]

3) How NYC’s new rent reforms affect you even if you’re not a stabilized tenant: A blacklist ban, security deposit limit, & more

4) New NYC rent laws require security deposits to be returned in 14 days and landlords are fuming
