West Hartford, Connecticut, is a good place to consider if you’re ready for suburban life—the town has a low cost of living, well-rated public schools, a popular downtown area, and it’s only a two-and-a-half hour drive from Manhattan.

The town’s real estate is also more affordable compared to NYC standards: The median sales price is currently $289,400, according to Zillow. Here you’ll find colonial styles as well as a mix of historic houses and new construction. Most houses here have large yards, fireplaces, garages, and room for a home office.

West Hartford Center is the town’s popular downtown area where you’ll find eateries like Restaurant Bricco and Max’s Oyster Bar plus an array of shops, cafes, Whole Foods, Noah Webster Library, and The Children’s Museum is nearby. For things to do outdoors, there are several parks like West Hartford Reservoir and Elizabeth Park. And, the public schools check out with an A+ rating and third-best school district in the Hartford area, according to Niche.
