Savannah, the oldest city in Georgia, is known for its history, architecture, and parks. Its laid-back, coastal vibe and affordable real estate (compared to New York City prices) also makes it a desirable place to live if you want more space and privacy for your money.

You can find a variety of house styles like Craftsman, Cape Cods, waterfront homes with docks, and, of course, many historical colonials. Many houses here have home offices, backyards, and pools. And you can get a lot more for your money compared to NYC: Savannah’s median sales price is around $241,990, according to Zillow

Staci Donegan, associate broker at Seabolt Real Estate in Savannah, says the city has a lot offer New Yorkers, like a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly downtown area and a variety of diverse neighborhoods. Donegan says that many New Yorkers gravitate towards the historic Landmark District, which has a Greenwich Village vibe.

“You don't have to own a car to live in the Landmark District because it's pedestrian-friendly and offers incredible amenities within walking distance,” she says.

The city’s urban plan, which was originally developed in the 18th century, is defined by a network of parks, squares and green space, Donegan says. If you're interested in history and art, you can explore the Savannah African Arts Museum, SCAD Museum of Art, and Savannah History Museum. Annual events include the Savannah Music Festival and Savannah Film Festival. For your dose of nature, check out Forsyth Park and Tybee Island. Popular places to eat include Atlantic, The Grey, The Olde Pink House, and The Collins Quarter
