If you’re looking to move somewhere with nature, history, and highly-rated public schools, you might want to check out New Paltz, a college town just two hours north of NYC.

You can get a lot for your money in New Paltz: the median sales price is $457,500, according to Realtor.com. There’s a mix of new construction in tree-lined suburban developments and renovated cottages, colonials, and Arts & Crafts-style houses. Most of the houses in the area have large yards, garages, and room for a home office.

For outdoor activities, you can visit Nyquist-Harcourt Wildlife Sanctuary or go hiking in one of several vast nature preserves in the area—or rock climbing in the Gunks. You can also visit the trails—or the spa—at Mohonk Mountain House, a historic resort that recently reopened. Main Street offers shopping and dining at eateries like Main Street Bistro, Huckleberry, and A Tavola Trattoria. For culture, there’s Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art and Studley Theater, both located on the SUNY New Paltz Campus. The public schools check out with an A-rating and is the top school district in Ulster County, according to Niche.
