Leaf peeping season is beginning to peek into view in northern Maine, and the fall leaves will be ablaze upstate before you know it. Central Park and Prospect Park are plenty pretty, but you may want to rent a car and go outside the five boroughs for truly spectacular views before it's all over.

Here are three houses and a hotel where you can stay to do just that. And while you're out there, we suggest looking up some apple picking options to make it a real fall celebration.

This 1850 farmhouse in the Catskills town of Phoenicia is three miles down a quiet road from the town center. There's a creek in the back, and the fence surrounding the house makes it safe for kids to play. Highly reviewed on Airbnb.

By October, you're in peak leaf peeping season in the Berkshires. This Egremont, Massachusetts house would be a great place to spend a weekend away next month. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and beamed ceilings throughout. A recent renovation makes it look fresh and clean.
