The staging wasn't so nicely done, but the house itself shines through.

The Poconos are kind of like a discount Vermont. You won't find the same lush green mountains or rabid Phish fans, but there are ski resorts, hiking, and lots of pine trees, plus the region is half the distance from New York. If you've got winter cabin life on the brain, this woodsy fixer-upper might be worth a look. The three bedroom, two-bath house is located in Mount Pocono, and listed for $149,900.

The house has a patio, an attic, hardwood floors, a dining room, family room, a copper raised paneled ceiling, and lovely marble countertops in the kitchen. The location suffices for all seasons. It's not far from Camelback Resort, which transforms from a winter ski and snowtubing spot to a summer water park, plus its fairly close to the Mount Airy Casino Resort and its a 30-minute drive to the Delaware Water Gap.

The kitchen is heavy on the wood, with a distinctive ceiling.

They are really not kidding about the wood.

There's a romantic office space that would serve well as a writer's nook.

The cozy family room gets some nice light, is also wood-positive.

And there's a second living space with a stone fireplace. If the Pepto-Bismol pink isn't your thing, it can easily be repainted.

I once coveted an American Girl doll dining set like this.

Mount Pocono is about a two-hour drive from New York City, or you can take one of many buses to get there. Regrettably, the house does not come with the cat.
