Madison, Connecticut is a town in New Haven County, located along the Connecticut Sound shoreline. That prime location has blessed the town with some beautiful waterfront areas—chiefly, Hammonasset Beach State Park, a two-mile stretch of shoreline paired with a boardwalk that serves as Connecticut’s largest public beach park. The park also houses the Meigs Point Nature Center, which provides nature walks, workshops, animal identification programs, and a touch-tank.

Madison is also home to a stretch of the Shoreline Greenway Trail, which runs out of nearby New Haven, and offers pedestrians, cyclists, and runners a protected, scenic car-free road. You can visit the Field House Farm, a family-run sustainable farm operation that offers children's and adult programs and farm-to-table dinners at its 18th century farmhouse. And for art lovers, there's the Sculpture Mile, a free, outdoor sculpture exhibition with works by nationally known artists.

Madison's got a pretty good food scene, too, with standouts like French bistro Bar Bouchée, Mediterranean spot Cafe Allegre, and R.J. Julia’s Cafe, a cute casual eatery inside famed independent bookstore R.J. Julia. And, of course, there's some lovely properties here with views of the Sound including this four-bedroom, three-bath colonial at 8 Tuxis Rd., now on the market for $925,000.

The house, which was built in 1900, has a charming porch.

And a dining room outfitted with a funky light fixture.

The kitchen's got vaulted ceilings with skylights, in addition to eggshell-painted cabinetry, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. There's also a cute breakfast bar.

The house is just under a two-hour drive from Manhattan. You can also take Metro-North's New Haven line, then switch to the Shore Line East train at New Haven's Union Station, which in total takes about three and a half hours.
