The rocky beaches of Gloucester, a picturesque city on Cape Ann, on Massachusetts's North Shore, make it an attractive, if slightly less frequented summer destination. Like nearby Manchester-by-the-Sea, Gloucester has long been a fishing town—the Pilgrims stumbled across it in 1623—and its fishing roots go deep: for Gloucester's 300th anniversary, the city commissioned a memorial commemorating the thousands of local fisherman that have been lost at sea over the years.

Beaches here include Good Harbor Beach, Wingaersheek Beach, and Niles Beach; there are also a number of whale-watching tours and other seafaring activities in town. For seafood restaurants, you can head to the aptly-named Lobsta LandThe Gloucester House, and the Causeway Restaurant. And if you'd like to learn more about Gloucester's history, there's Stage Fort Park, where Gloucester's first European settlers set up camp in 1623, and where visitors can enjoy more beaches (Half Moon and Cressy Beach) in addition to sports courts and playgrounds.

Gloucester's also has some great coastal properties, including cliff-side mansions and Cape-style houses. If you are in the market, this four-bedroom, three-bath house at 4 Wolf Hill Rd. is asking $799,000. It sits on a cliff, offering beautiful views of the Annisquam River.

The house is new—it was built in 2018—and it blends classic design elements from American Foursquare and Craftsman styles of building.

The custom-built kitchen is located on the main level, featuring a six-burner gas Thermador range, quartz countertops, handsome cabinetry, and deep sinks.

It flows into the dining room, which gets sun from the glass deck door.

The kitchen and dining room flow into the living room, which has a gas fireplace and river views.

Here's another shot of the living room, so you can see it in relation to the kitchen and dining area.

It's not clear what room this is from the listing; could be a bedroom or the study.

Here's another bedroom.

And another, with ample closet space. The bedrooms are all on the second level; the master bedroom has water views and an en suite bath.

The listing only provides one bath image, this one outfitted with white wood walls and a marble sink.

Outdoor space includes a small deck off the kitchen/dining area.

And a stone patio with space for a small outdoor kitchen.

The house has a long, rock-lined driveway...

Other highlights include a yard and a laundry room with washer and dryer. The house is a four-hour drive from Manhattan and a 50-minute drive from Boston.
