Over the last decade or so, Beacon, NY, in the Hudson Valley, has cemented its status as the hippest stop on the Metro-North Railroad. Home to the contemporary art museum Dia:Beacon and a slew of antique shops and galleries, the 16,000-population city inspires visitors as well as those in search of lower living costs to give up NYC and call Beacon their own. But it's not just the art, other draws include cafes, scenic hikes, brewpubs, and funky boutiques that are packed on weekends, plus Beacon is just a quick ride from Grand Central Terminal.

If any of that sounds appealing to you, consider this four-bedroom, three-bath Cape Cod-style house at 137 Howland Ave., now on the market for $449,000.

The house has an elegant front porch and a beautiful view.

The house is a little under a one-and-a-half hour drive from the city, or it's a one-and-a-half hour ride on Metro-North's Hudson line, then a 12-minute ride from the station on Beacon's free bus line.
