For a refreshing twist on the Hamptons house, check out this East Hampton contemporary, which is down to earth despite its modern design and fine finishes. There's nothing too flashy going on here, which is exactly why this house is compelling.

Located at the end of a cul-de-sac yet very close to the center of town, the house was built in 1985.

It has an open kitchen/living area with vaulted ceilings. There are four bedrooms, three baths, central AC and a finished basement. It's listed for $895,000.

Something you don't see often is the extended carport featured here. It offers covered parking for a car, obviously, but then extends farther allowing for a covered outdoor seating area. Very creative!

We could definitely see this as a fun place to hang with friends and family on a hot or rainy summer day.

There's also an elevated deck off the side of the house.

Check out that triangular window in the shower!

The house is "passive solar," according to the listing. It is on a three-quarter-acre lot with room to expand, the listing also notes.

It's the slow season for sellers in the city, and particularly in vacation areas like the Hamptons, so now might be a prime time to negotiate on price.
