With a walled-off sleeping alcove and see-through French doors, this 600-square-foot, $499,000 Upper East Side apartment apartment looks and feels more like a one bedroom than a studio. And the apartment has even more going for it than that.
The living room is large and airy, with ample space for a couch, a pair of entry tables, and bookshelves and dressers. This is especially important as it looks like the bed takes up pretty much the entirety of the “bedroom” here.
A wall of south-facing windows runs the full width of the apartment, bringing bright light into both the living and sleeping areas. A seafoam green wall on one side adds some contrast and a little bit of drama to the space (and is easily fixed with a coat of paint if that color isn’t for you). Underfoot, parquet flooring looks to be in decent shape, although it’s clearly seen better days.
The aforementioned bed alcove seems small, but looks like it gets a lot of good light. As such, blackout shades might not be a bad idea here if you ever want to get any sleep. Beyond the alcove are two large closets and the bathroom.
It might be a little awkward for guests to have to walk through someone’s bedroom in order to get to the bathroom, but not much can really be done about that at the moment.
Said bathroom looks to be in good condition, with a clean-looking pedestal sink, some shelving above the toilet (essential since there isn’t any storage space beneath the sink), and pristine-looking white tiles along the walls. The flooring seems a bit too dark for the space. If budget allows, it could stand to be updated.
The petite kitchen could also use a little bit of sprucing, with a gas range and a dishwasher that look rather old (although if they still work, there’s no strong reason to replace them) and butcher block countertops that are lovely but don’t offer much in the way of actual counter space. Spotless white cabinets and a stainless steel fridge round out the room.
The apartment is located in an elevator building on 67th Street, near the Second Avenue Q line. The building has a full-time doorman, a live-in resident manager, a parking garage, a bike room and a furnished roof deck.
The easygoing board permits pets, sublets and parents buying for children. Maintenance is $1,453 a month.
