If you’re looking to buy and want more space, consider a house in New York City's outer boroughs, because you don’t actually have to move to the suburbs to benefit from the perks of owning a house—and there are some good financial arguments for owning a house in the city.

For starters, you’ll also avoid having to pay monthly maintenance or common charges like you would in a co-op or condo—or deal with a co-op or condo board. And taxes are lower for houses here than in the ‘burbs.

You’ll find neighborhoods in the outer boroughs that approach the quiet and laid-back vibe of the suburbs. And, you can still commute to Manhattan if you end up back in an office when things are more normal.

Of course, buying a house in the city might cost you more than buying a co-op or condo, depending on where you buy and how big the property is, and there’s more responsibility (no more calling the super or landlord to fix something). But, in addition to having more space, there are other benefits that are appealing, especially in the Covid era: privacy, outdoor space, laundry rooms, driveways or garages, and you won’t have to share an elevator or common area with neighbors (or strangers).

So, if you’re ready to be a homeowner in the five boroughs, here are five houses on the market including a four bedroom in Pleasant Plains, Staten Island and a five bedroom in Forest Hills, Queens.

88 Savo Loop, Pleasant Plains
