Roosevelt Island, the often overlooked two-mile enclave between Manhattan and Queens, is good neighborhood to consider if you're looking to buy in a quieter neighborhood with less noise and traffic.

Living here almost makes you feel like you’re not in New York City, until you look across the East River and see the apartment towers along FDR Drive. Both Manhattan and Queens are just one stop away via the F train, which makes for a quick commute. You can also take the tram to East 60th Street in Manhattan, and the island has its own bus system.

While there are not as many retail options as other NYC neighborhoods, there are several stores and eateries, and of course, a Duane Reade and Starbucks. Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedoms State Park anchors the end of the island and Cornell Tech opened a campus there in 2017.

What you will find are spacious co-ops and condos that were built during the island’s first development boom back in the ’70s and newer, luxury buildings developed over the past decade, mostly along Main Street. Here you can get more for your budget compared to most other Manhattan neighborhoods.

So, if you’re looking to buy in a neighborhood where you can get peace and quiet while you work (or study) from home, here are five places for sale on Roosevelt Island.
