This $1.295 million Brooklyn Heights apartment is listed by Corcoran as a two bedroom, one bath, though the second bedroom is actually a loft that's open to the main level below. What you sacrifice in privacy, though, you gain in style.

The building was built in 1880 as a school and later converted to condos. The unit been renovated to include a custom staircase and high-end open kitchen. The main level features extra-high ceilings and huge windows with views of the Brooklyn Bridge (and, less fortunately, the BQE).

The revamped kitchen features gleaming cabinetry, Caesarstone countertops, and stainless steel appliances. There's seating at the island as well. The open plan living and dining area is brightly lit thanks to those huge windows. Other unique touches include storage space tucked behind the staircase, sliding barn doors that open onto the bathroom, and an in-unit washer and dryer.

The master bedroom benefits from a corner position with multiple exposures and more oversized windows—though given the proximity to the BQE, noise may be an issue. The bathroom has also been recently renovated, with new tiles and cabinets.

In the loft, there's room for a sleeping area, though given the openness of the space, it may be better for guests than a permanent resident. It's definitely handy for storage, and the separate office up here looks like a pleasant nook for getting work done.

The 57-unit condo building has a live-in super, laundry, a bike room, and a garden. Pets are permitted, and the common charges are low at $374 a month.

The building is close to the High Street and Clark Street subway stations and Brooklyn Bridge Park.
