The brownstone at 559 Monroe St. in Bedford Stuyvesant is pretty impressive on its own, but it's even more so when you see what it looked like seven months ago. Listed for $2,195,000, the two-family townhouse sold for $1,165,000 back in April, and was renovated by local firm Green Builders with the goal of restoring as much original detail as possible while modernizing the home, says Tali Berzak, an agent at Compass.

The brownstone measures 2,850 square feet and is 20-feet wide and was built in 1905. Details include exposed brick, decorative woodwork, original shutters, and wide plank walnut floors.

The owner's duplex is entered on the parlor floor through a tiled foyer and magnificent arched door. A open living and dining area has a wood-burning fireplace, 10 and half foot ceilings, and mahogany window frames. There is also a powder room on this floor.

The chef's kitchen features a decorative fireplace, a three-seat island, custom cabinetry, Carrara marble countertops, and a farmhouse sink, as well as high-end appliances and a wine refrigerator.

A deck leads to the deep back yard. 

Three bedrooms ands two full baths are upstairs. The master bedroom faces the yard, and has a reading nook and large closet; its bathroom features a herringbone marble floor, double vanity, and glass-enclosed rainshower.

The owner's apartment includes the basement, which has a private entrance and tile floor, and could be used as a playroom or artists studio. 

The garden apartment is a two-bedroom, one-bath rental.

The listing says the building is in Stuyvesant Heights, but technically, it's not—although the historic district is nearby. The closest subway is the J at Gates Avenue, and shopping and eating option can be found on Lewis and Stuyvesant avenues.
