Sure, New York City is still feeling a little steamy at the moment, but before you know it, those leaves and flakes will fly. (Alert: the first official day of fall is today.) Whether it's old-school and wood-burning or sleek and gas-powered, a fireplace can add some warmth and wonder to your place during the cold months. Here are five apartments and houses with fireplaces that are having open houses this weekend.

Douglas Elliman

400 E. 52nd St., #15C, Upper East Side: Located in an Emory Roth-designed prewar elevator building — on a cul-de-sac, no less—this 15th floor one-bedroom, one-bath co-op not only has a wood-burning fireplace, but also hardwood floors, and an oversized window in the living room. A newly renovated kitchen features custom cabinetry, granite counters, high-end appliances and a breakfast bar.

A dining area can seat six, and the bedroom has a walk-in closet. Building amenities include a 24-hour doorman and private garden. Maintenance of $1,938 includes all utilities, and the building is pet-friendly. Additionally, subletting and pied-a-terres are allowed. For transportation, the E, M and 6 are three blocks away, and for those with cars, the FDR Drive is just to the east.

Asking price: $799,000

Open house: Sunday, Sept. 24th, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

235 E. 22nd St. #14V, Gramercy Park: This studio co-op in an Art Deco elevator building mixes prewar details like hardwood and moldings with stainless steel appliances, granite counters, and a breakfast bar in the kitchen. (We could live without the purple accent wall, but that's remedied easily enough.) Comes with a wood-burning fireplace and a key to the private park that is the neighborhood's namesake park. The bathroom features white subway tile with black trim, and the sleeping nook appears to be outfitted with multiple built-ins for storage.

Heat and AC are included in your $839 maintenance fee. The pet-friendly building also has a planted and furnished roof deck, laundry, and bike storage.

Asking price: $449,000

Open house: Sunday, Sept. 24th, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

39 W. 67th St. #1503, Upper West Side: Built in 1906 as a residence for artists, this landmarked one-bedroom, one-bath co-op is outfitted with a butane fireplace faced with Palisando marble. In the kitchen, you'll find sleek custom cabinets and a tiny breakfast bar (for one?). In addition to the bedroom, a separate room can be used as a den, dining space or guest bedroom. A pass-through space just outside it is apparently large enough to accommodate a grand piano. The renovated bath features white Dolomite marble and brass fixtures, as well as a large window.

The listing promises great city views, and the hefty $2,840 maintenance gets you a 24-hour elevator operator, a private garden, laundry and bike storage. The building allows pets and pied-a-terres. The area features plenty of shopping and eating options, and proximity to Central Park. The 1, 2, 3 and C and B subway lines are all about three blocks away.

Asking price: $885,000

Open house: Sunday, Sept. 24th, noon-1:30 p.m.

Brooklyn Landmark Real Estate

10 Montague Terrace #4B, Brooklyn Heights: This studio is a little rough around the edges, but it's got a lot going for it, including the wood-burning fireplace. We see high ceilings, hardwood floors (in need of refinishing), moldings, a grander-than-grand lobby, and an elevator. The low maintenance of $698, coupled with a reduced price and perhaps a motivated seller add intrigue.

For location and cute factor, this one is hard to beat: in addition to the charming streets of Brooklyn Heights, residents have plenty of retail and eating/drinking options, proximity to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and Brooklyn Bridge Park. The R, 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains are also close by.

Asking price: $645,000

Open house: Saturday, Sept. 23rd, noon-3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 24th, 2-5 p.m. By appointment only.

CitiHabitats

668 W. 232nd St., Riverdale: This six-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath Georgian-style townhouse built in 2009 has a gas fireplace and a whole lot more. A garden level has a rec room/den that leads out to the landscaped garden, and the living room has 13-foot ceilings and a wall of windows that open to a south-facing deck. In the kitchen you'll find custom cabinetry and high-end appliances, and the master bedroom has a walk-in closet and an en-suite marble bath with a double vanity. There's more space/sleeping quarters on the top floor, as well as a finished attic. Other pluses include central air and heat, laundry, a garage and driveway, and voice intercom. It's near Seton Park, and the Metro-North from Spuyten Duyvil takes about 30 minutes to get to Grand Central during rush hour.

Asking price: $1,749 million

Open house: Sunday, Sept. 24th, 1-2:30 p.m.
