Co-op pick of the week

A true-two bedroom in Manhattan for under $1 million (and downtown, too!)

It's not all that common to find a Manhattan two-bedroom for under a million bucks (according to the most recent Corcoran market report, the median price for an apartment that size in the borough is $1.6 million), but this Lower East Side renovated two-bedroom, one-bath comes in at just under a mil—at $995,000.

The apartment, which is being represented by Halstead Property, has an open kitchen with appliances that look nearly brand new (including some name-brand ones, like a Liebherr refrigerator, Jenn-Air range, and Miele dishwasher).

According to the listing, several walls have been removed to make the apartment feel more open and airy. There's also a private balcony with wood decking. Large picture windows in the living room mean there are downtown and midtown views.

Granted, this isn't in the trendiest part of the Lower East Side, but the large (and, yes, rather institutional-looking) East River co-op is gifted with perks a-plenty, including a gym, two private parks, a community room, a playroom, in-building laundry, and 24-hour security. Subleasing is permitted after two years of ownership, but dogs are not allowed.
