Townhouse pick of the week

Modern renovations come to a historic location in this Stuyvesant Heights townhouse

Buying a townhouse in brownstone Brooklyn can mean sacrificing modern conveniences in favor of historic detail and charm. Not so with this freshly renovated two-family townhouse in the historic Stuyvesant Heights section of Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Though the facade retains a classic brick look in keeping with the rest of the surrounding neighborhood, the interiors are sleek and modern, and have been outfitted with SMART technology that controls the thermostat, LED lighting, and a smartphone-controlled live camera and video intercom system. As with many newly renovated townhouses these days, the house has been divided up into two units—a two-bedroom, two-bathroom rental on the garden level and a three-bedroom owner's duplex above. The owner's triplex features an expansive entertaining area, including living room, dining room, and an open kitchen (with Caesarstone white countertop).

The kitchen also leads out onto French doors that in turn open onto a deck, with a staircase leading down into the shared backyard (so better make sure you like the people you're renting out the ground floor to):

On the upper level of the owner's duplex, there's a master suite, including an en-suite master bathroom with extras like a double sink and vanity and a shower with a rain-head and massage jets:

As for the rental unit, it features exposed brick, a finished basement, an open kitchen, and direct access onto the backyard:

The home has wide-plank white oak floors and high ceilings throughout, two washer-and-dryer hookups, and "ample closet space," plus it's located a short walk from the Kosciusko J train station, so it'll likely be even more in-demand once the L train shuts down.

All of which mean the high-for-the-area asking price of $1.645 million might not seem too high for the right buyer.
