Townhouse pick of the week

This townhouse in Prospect Lefferts Gardens has classic good bones and luxurious new updates

For buyers and renters alike, Prospect Lefferts Gardens is becoming a more popular option for Brooklynites who want easy access to Prospect Park, but aren't ready to pay Park Slope prices. And we're particularly taken with this stately, turn-of-the-century townhouse in the neighborhood, which at $1.795 million, is a significant discount to what you'd pay for a similar space on the other side of the park.

The three-bedroom, two-bath home is located on Winthrop Street, which is comprised of a row of townhouses said to be built by a sea captain in the early 1900s. The home is 17 feet wide, and features an expansive parlor level that's set up for grand entertaining. The bright living room includes a brick fireplace, and leads directly into the dining room.

The dining room then flows into the large, renovated eat-in chef's kitchen, which has plenty of counterspace and a glass-enclosed breakfast room. From here, you can head straight out into the backyard, which has room for a deck, a garden, and an above-ground swimming pool.

You'll also find spacious bedrooms and storage on the second floor, as well as a renovated bathroom with high-end extras including Carrara marble, a stall shower built for two, and a jacuzzi tub.

A family room on the lower level could use some decorative flourishes to bring it to life; nonethless, it would make a perfect guest room, or a place to put in a big screen for TV and movie nights.

The home is just a couple of blocks from Prospect Park, as well as the Parkside Avenue Q station, meaning that once you're done hibernating, it'll be easy to take a walk in nature or hop on the express and head for Manhattan.
