For the price of a Manhattan two-bedroom, you can get four bedrooms and 20 acres in the Berkshires
Full disclosure: We're suckers for the Berkshires. The towns have that hippy/artsy vibe we love. In the winter, there's skiing and snowboarding, and summers bring swim spots, hiking and biking trails, and arts and culture venues like Tanglewood.
And as far as country houses in the Berkshires go, we'd find it hard to top this 1820 stone house in East Chatham, which happens to sit on 20 acres (!), with views of the mountains and plenty of room for you (and your kids) to run around in the fresh air.
The federal style house has been recently updated, with a new kitchen, central air and new windows.
The first floor has a master suite, a library, three additional bedrooms (all very romantic, we might add), and a large screened-in porch. There are two fireplaces, two full bathrooms, one three-quarter bath and one half-bath.
Plus, at $939,000, it costs about $200,000 less than the average Manhattan apartment. We imagine it's a lot larger than the average, too.
