An under-$500K Brooklyn studio that's built for the home chef

We appreciate a studio with a kitchen that doesn't feel like a "studio kitchen," and this one — located in a $479,000 co-op in downtown Brooklyn — seems like it belongs in a much bigger apartment. It also has a Sub-Zero fridge (full size, in case you're wondering), and other stainless-steel appliances, including what appears to be a dishwasher drawer, plus a breakfast bar.

The apartment itself is an alcove studio, with a generously sized sleeping alcove (see below).

And it appears as though there's room for a couch and even a small dining table and/or desk.

The bathroom has high-end finishes and tiles, but note that there's no bath, which may not suit all buyers. Also we prefer a sink with some storage space underneath, but that's something that's pretty easily remedied (thanks Home Depot/Ikea!).

The building is an 18-story, postwar co-op, with a full-time doorman, laundry, and gym. It's located blocks from Brooklyn Heights in downtown Brooklyn, an area that used to feel secluded at night and rather business-heavy, but is seeing more and more residential buildings pop up nearly daily.

The $941 maintenance includes heat, gas and electric.
