Here at Brick our love for our pets is proportional to the space they take up in our small NYC apartments (which is to say: a lot). And we're always looking for ways to improve on all the extra gear that comes with them.
One cat-specific item that could really use an update is the litter box. Because as much as we love our kitties, we don't need to handle their waste, too.
And apparently we're not alone in that sentiment. The Luup Litter Box — which allows you to sift litter without touching the cat's waste — has raised about eight times its fundraising goal on Kickstarter, with almost three weeks left.
Here's how it works: There are three identical slotted trays. Individually each one acts as a sieve, but when any two are stacked together, it creates a solid tray. To clean the litter box, you lift the top tray and the waste is separated from the litter.
For about $34, you'll get one delivered later in 2016.
Note: It won't work in the teeniest of NYC bathrooms, since it's 15.4-by-20.2 inches. (The designers explain that they made it larger than the original version — a product sold on television in the 1990s — in order to accommodate bigger cats.) They've also kept the design low enough for older cats who may have trouble getting in and out of higher boxes.
