A Ditmas Park apartment with room for a baby, an office, or a guest

Teensy Ditmas Park is attracting a lot of notice these days for its small-town feel: The family-friendly neighborhood is home to Victorian houses with wide porches, where it’s not unusual to see kids out at play. It’s also considered one of the last bastions of affordability in Brooklyn but, like so many other neighborhoods, prices are rising.

Rather than a rambling old Victorian, this two-bedroom co-op is in a nondescript building on 17th Street, close to the Cortelyou Road train station. But it’s on the top floor, and listed for $525,000 by Brooklyn Hearth Realty, which is on par with other nearby options.

The apartment seems designed for a growing family. The master bedroom—which gets plenty of light, thanks to its large, east-facing windows—is sizable, but the more diminutive second bedroom may be best suited for a nursery, guest room, or office.

It’s a comfortable space to entertain, as well, with an open floor plan for the dining and living rooms (though we're not sure about that exposed wire leading to the light fixture). The window onto the kitchen makes it easy to chat while cooking, plus the space is outfitted with new appliances, dark quartz counters, and a dishwasher.

Subway tile in the bathroom makes for easy cleaning, though that sink looks tiny, and there isn’t a ton of space for storage. In the plus column, though, the seven-floor building has a live-in super and a part-time doorman, but if you need a parking spot, you’ll have to go on the waiting list.
