A two-bedroom aerie near the Upper West Side's Museum of Natural History

There's something decidedly charming about this two-bedroom, two-bath duplex on West 80th Street a half-block from Central Park. Start with the touches that come with being tucked into the third and fourth floors of a townhouse: a period facade; a customized, non-cookie-cutter floorplan; slanted ceilings.

And yet it's modern, too, thanks to a makeover that has made the first level a massive entertainment space, with the living room—which has a woodburning fireplace—flowing into a proper dining room, and both leading out onto a terrace.

The kitchen, which is open-plan and looks onto the dining room, is on the petite end of the spectrum; still, it's fully equipped with name-brand appliances such as SubZero and Gaggenau.

At the moment, there are two bedrooms, both with fireplaces, and one of which has a massive dressing room; but the online listing description by the Corcoran Group—which has it priced at $2.895 million—offers an alternative floorplan that could carve one into two, making for three total bedrooms.

The property just hit the market last week. Given how competitive the market can be, it may be smart strategy to look now while the holidays create a diversion for other buyers who might be your competition.
