A sweet West Village studio that comes broker-free

This studio in the prime West Village—31 Jane Street to be exact—is a co-op that's being rented directly by the owner. That means a few things for you, the prospective renter. First, you won't have to deal with a broker or pay a broker fee. Second, you'll have to have good credit, make 40 times the monthly rent, and be able to pass the co-op board.

Assuming you can do all that, this $2,950 studio might be worth checking out. It's in a doorman building with a furnished roof deck, complete with benches and a hammock (!).

Plus, the apartment itself has a newly renovated separate kitchen (with stainless appliances and an extra wide and deep sink). Yes, it's compact, but it's complete.

We're also fans of the storage options. There are built-in shelves in the small foyer and two large closets. Apparently, the building has extra storage available, too. Always good to have when you're essentially living in one room.
