For close to five decades, Animal Haven has helped find homes for pets all over the tri-state area, and thanks to their Manhattan shelter, right here in the city. As they gear up to move into their new, open-plan location on Center Street, we caught up with executive director Tiffany Lacey about her best (and worst) New York apartments, the dog run at Central Park, and the one piece of advice every New York pedestrian should hear before they hit the sidewalks:

1.  What neighborhood do you live in?

The Upper West Side.

2. Is this your dream neighborhood or is there someplace else in NYC you’d prefer to settle in?

Love the neighborhood but I aspire to the West Village.

3. Do you own or rent

Rent.

4. How’d you find it?

Craigslist.

5. What’s the one thing you love the most about it?

I love being close to Central Park to walk my dog.

6. If there’s one thing you could change about your apartment, what would it be?

Have it not be a five story walkup. Two would be just fine.

7. In three words, describe the first apartment you've ever lived in.

A tiny hole.

8. Do you dream of old New York or prefer the 2015 version?

I like both for different reasons.

9. Tell us about the favorite apartment you’ve ever had.

I really love the apartment I’m in now.  It’s prewar and adorable.  Again though, it’s a five-story walkup so I’d like to give that up.

10. And the worst?

It was a tiny apartment the size of a walk-in closet.

11. Name one NYC service you couldn’t live without.

The park system.

12. What's your favorite spot in the city?

Central Park.

13. Which would you rather: Brooklyn brownstone or a penthouse in a shiny, new condo?

 New condo.

14. If you could live elsewhere, where would it be?

Austin!

15. Any advice for a recent New York transplant?

Treat walking on the sidewalks like you are driving a car on the street. Don’t stop short and keep moving. If you have to stop, pull over to the side.
