Good Eggs is flying the coop in Brooklyn.

The organic food market startup, which was founded in San Francisco, announced it is also shutting down service in Los Angeles and New Orleans, and will only be operating out of the Bay Area, the company's CEO said in a blog post Wednesday.

“We didn’t fully anticipate the challenge of creating a new kind of food business that required a different approach to supply chains, logistics and commerce,” the company’s founder, Rob Spiro, said in a blog post.

“We made a mistake in expanding as quickly as we did without perfecting the model first, and we take full responsibility for that mistake and its consequences.”

A few of us here at BrickUnderground are saddened by the news, as we were big fans of the company’s fresh approach to organic farm-to-table fare, using independent vendors.

According to Forbes, about 140 people have been let go because of the closings, though it’s unclear how many of them were in New York.

The company also laid off a small chunk of workers at the beginning of the year, despite raising $21 million in Series C.

Spiro said in a blog post that he hopes to refocus Good Eggs’ efforts in the Bay Area, but made no mention of trying to re-open again in New York.

Ah, well. Back to the drawing board.
