Meet today's home furnishings store: cheaper, faster and Web-only
As we've noted before, shopping online for home decor has its pros and cons. Now, a whole new class of Internet retailers wants to give you a reason to click by offering quality furnishings at much lower prices than you'd find at a typical home store.
How, you ask? By selling and shipping their wares directly to you (sometimes in the time it takes to order a pizza!) thereby eliminating the need for expensive retail stores and middlemen distributors. As ApartmentTherapy points out, these crafty upstarts have based their businesses in part on the success of Warby Parker —the budget eyewear retailer that began by selling their vintage-inspired specs solely online—but then adapted the model for the home furnishings market.
Which means you can now score a quality mattress, high-end upholstered furniture, luxury bed linens and more delivered right to your building (via UPS, Uber and even bike messenger), undoubtedly a boon for the car-less denizens of NYC. Now that's as good a reason as any to engage in some online retail therapy.
