The granny cart, circa 2014 : A new addition to your NYC shopping arsenal

Most New Yorkers travel by foot, which means if they’re heading out to shop or do laundry or just move things from point A to point B, they’re likely to be carrying stuff with them—lots of it. A granny cart helps, but the old-school kinds are often flimsy designs that are no match for bulky loads or numerous flights of stairs—or both. (Also: chic, they aren't.)

Enter UpCart, a revision of the typical granny cart, created by Michael Reznik, an insurance exec and inventor TriFold, a company headed up by inventor Leonid Khodor and CEO Michael Reznik. The Upcart’s got a metal chassis that claims to haul over 150 lbs and a nifty tri-wheel design that promises to make bumping up and down stairs a thing of the past. The icing on the cake: Unlike most carts that take up room in the closet, this one folds flat for storage.

With 34 days to go, UpCart has raised over $10,000 toward its $100,000 Kickstarter goal, which means there’s still plenty of time and opportunity to get the project off the ground. A pledge of $75 will get you one of the first available UpCarts made at 25 percent off the expected retail price, while a pledge of $85 will get you the same, plus a custom fitted UpCart Bag for transporting smaller items, like groceries. Expect delivery in April and May 2015 (respectively).
