Ms. Demeanor's Vertical Etiquette

Dear Ms. Demeanor: My hallway looks like a preschool classroom

Dear Ms. Demeanor,

My neighbor's door is covered in their kids' artwork. It's not that I don't like kids (or their artwork), it's just that it's starting to look messy (and spreading beyond their doors and onto the hallway walls). Is there a nice way to ask them to be a bit more minimalist? I don't want to come across as a rude/child-intolerant, but it's getting on my nerves!

Sincerely,
Dory

Dear Dory,

I do sympathize and, other than special occasions such as visits from grandparents, new siblings or holidays, I think that generally, art should stay on the inside or at the very least be as minimalist as possible on the outside.

That said, I think you need to pick your battles when it comes to approaching the neighbor yourself. I also think the sentiment should come from an official source lest you seem petty.  Check with the co-op board or building manager about the rules concerning door decorations and ask them send a letter to neighbor(s) reminding them of same.

Share the space and share the taste,
Ms. Demeanor
