StreetEasy’s Most Wanted: Let your imagination run wild (with a little help from your contractor)

Wanna get creative? One of the apartments featured in this edition of StreetEasy’s Most Wanted--the 10 sales listings StreetEasy users saved more often than any others this week--might tickle your fancy. These all have flexible layouts, with options ranging from simply converting a room to adding a whole new floor.

On Prince Street (between Elizabeth Street and The Bowery), you’ll find a two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo on the market for $2.25m. The Nolita penthouse is currently configured as a (large) one-bedroom. One interesting feature: the living room has a 23’ folding glass wall that can be opened to connect the indoors to the private outdoor space (pictured). The bathrooms double as dry saunas and feature wall-hung Geberit toilet systems and Italian glass mosaic tile walls. The master suite has 12 feet of custom built-in closet space and shelving units, a flat-screen TV, recessed lighting and western city views.

Or, you might consider a $1.495m two-bedroom, two-bathroom co-op in a doorman building on Seventh Avenue between West 15th and 14th Streets in Chelsea, which can turn into a three-bedroom -- if you can do without a dining room -- since the windowed area can be easily converted into a bedroom. The building has a planted and furnished roof deck, as well as a garage and bike room.

A little further south in Greenwich Village, there’s a $975k two-bedroom, two-bathroom co-op that’s actually two "combined but not blended" studios. Located on 12th Street and Sixth Avenue, the elevator building, which is pet friendly, has a full-time maintenance staff, but you’ll have to trek to the basement to do laundry, and the doorman only works part-time.

Over in Gramercy Park on 15th Street between Third Avenue and Irving Place is a convertible $1.495m two-bedroom, two-bathroom co-op. The dining room of this corner unit can morph into a third bedroom. There’s even space for a home office. The postwar building has a full-time doorman and live-in super, and pied-a-terres and co-purchasing are both allowed.

Looking for a larger home with more space? Head to Brooklyn for a $1.879m three-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bathroom single-family townhouse on Seventh Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues in Park Slope. The two-story townhouse features a finished basement, and due to available FAR, there’s the potential to add a third floor. There's also a private garden and finished basement with a wall of closets and a laundry and storage room.
