We here at BrickUnderground have to tip our hats to vacation rental site Airbnb. The company has partnered with the city to offer free apartments (with no broker fee, of course) to New Yorkers in need to post-Sandy.

We think the generosity of our fellow New Yorkers could impress even the most cynical among us.  (And in case you were wondering, the NYC law against short-term rentals does not apply if money doesn't change hands.)

On a side note, for those looking to store/move some of their belongings while staying in short-term housing, Tuck-it-Away and Manhattan Mini Storage are offering free services.

Here's a quick tour of some of the amazing FREE lodging currently available (and we guess, not for long) on Airbnb:

  • Entire 700-square-foot apartment in Chelsea. This apartment fits four comfortably and there's a queen-sized bed in the bedroom. The living room couch turns into a full-sized bed. There's also a dining room table which can extend and accommodate eight people.
  • A guest bedroom in a 1,300-square-foot apartment in Chelsea.  The apartment has everything including WiFi, and is fully stocked with food (and wine!). The bedroom has a pillow top full size bed that comfortably fits two guests, a dresser and a closet. The apartment has a washer/dryer too. Note: It's a walk-up.
  • Entire 1,600-square-foot loft apartment (pictured) in Hell's Kitchen. The apartment -- located in a pre-war warehouse building -- has large windows, high ceilings and original concrete floors. The bed is queen-sized. There's also wireless Internet and lots of open space.
  • 200-square-foot room in a 1,400-square-foot loft in Williamsburg. The room -- which is big enough for a family -- has a full size bed,  wifi, tv (local channels only) with dvd player and a radio alarm watch with iPod console. The apartment is shared by two roommates and two cats.
  • A (kid's) bedroom in an Upper East Side doorman building. Most of the time, this is a 4-year-old's bedroom, so it's complete with a lofted princess bed, but it can fit four people in total (there's a matress below the princess bed and an air mattress, too). The building has a playroom and a laundry room. The apartment will be shared with a family.

No-Fee Apartment of the Week showcases an apartment that’s currently on the market and is being offered with no broker fee (otherwise known as the holy grail of New York City rentals).
