All good things must come to an end, and Veronica X regrets to inform you that though she has enjoyed her time here immensely, the growing demands of her offline life have led her to decide that this NYC Real(i)ty Speak must be her last.

She signs off today with a look toward the future - When you are making your New Year's resolutions, add a few that will make life in Gotham's vertical village even sweeter:

  1. I will stop complaining about the lack of space and start realizing that the more space you have, the more crap you have/need/want to fill it.
  2. I will stop collecting take-out menus. They are all online.
  3. I will go through the storage bins under my bed and throw out the jeans that only fit during the summer I flirted with anorexia in college.
  4. I will stop acting like I am looking for a new apartment - going to open houses, obsessively reading the Times Real Estate section, and surfing StreetEasy - until I am actually looking for a new apartment.
  5. I will stop sleeping with my roommates.
  6. I will throw everything out in my storage space, whether in or outside my building, that I haven't seen or touched in 10 years.
  7. I will learn/relearn/not forget the name of one neighbor this year (preferably the one with whom I have had deep meaningful talks in the elevator).
  8. I will not steal other people's fabric softener sheets in the laundry room when I forget my own.
  9. If I am a West Sider, I will go to the East Side at least once this year (Bloomingdales doesn't count). If I am an East Sider, I will go to the West Side this year (Lincoln Center doesn't count)
  10. I will not ask a single person if they rent or own.

Veronica X. is a Canadian by birth, an Upper West Sider by nature, and an Upper East Sider by choice and circumstance. She has finally found an apartment big enough for her family, books, and shoes and is now in the process of renovating it.
