The new development surrounding the Barclays Center has been nothing if not controversial, but if you're on the hunt for affordable housing, it's also a prime opportunity: per a new listing on NYC Housing Connect, 181 affordable rentals are now accepting applications at 461 Dean Street, a mix of studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms starting as low as $559/month.

As Gothamist points out, the apartments at 461 Dean are the first batch of thousands of promised affordable rentals in the Atlantic Yards development, and per usual with this kind of affordable housing, preference for half of the affordable units will be given to current neighborhood residents of Brooklyn's Community Boards 2, 3, 6, and 8. Amenities in the building will include a 24-hour attended lobby, washer and dryers in each apartment, an on-site manager, and for an extra charge, perks like a fitness center, lounge, private dining room, children's play room, game room, terrace, and art studio. (The actual website for 461 Dean also touts the apartments' high-end finishes.)
