For a few lucky renters, Bushwick and East Williamsburg apartments for under $1,000/month

Competition for the city's coveted affordable housing units is always stiff, and it's likely to be even more intense for these listings in Bushwick and East Williamsburg that just posted on NYC Housing Connect, the city's online database, since just a few affordable apartments are up for grabs.

First, there are four affordable rentals at 83 Bushwick Place in—you guessed it—Bushwick, ranging from $947/month one-bedrooms to $1,071/month two-bedrooms for renters with restricted incomes (see requirements below). The listing doesn't mention any particular amenities, but the building is a brand-new luxury complex, as Crain's reported in 2014, so we'd expect there might be extras like a laundry room or shared outdoor space.

If you're interested in applying, you can create a profile and apply online via NYC Housing Connect, or request a paper application by sending a self-addressed envelope to Bushwick Place Venture LLC c/o Metropolitan Realty Exemptions, 118 Middleton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11206. Applications for these are due July 12th.

Over in East Williamsburg, there are two one-bedrooms available for $947/month at 103 Varet Street. There aren't many details available about the building, but as with 83 Bushwick Place, preference for half of the apartments will be given to a current resident of Brooklyn's Community Board 1. You can apply online via NYC Housing Connect, or request a hard copy application by sending a self-addressed envelope to 103 VARET MANAGEMENT LLC c/o Metropolitan Realty Exemptions, 118 Middleton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11206. Applications for this one are due July 11th.
