Shenanigans at the Link: Calling all condo lawyers

I live at the Link, new condo on W. 52nd. It's a beautiful building consistently marred by the Napoleanic Syndrome of the Board, almost all of whom are unemployed or perfume spritzers at Saks. (Yes, we have tried to get rid of them. It's impossible.) This week they imposed an assessment on all owners (basically, a 50-percent increase in our condo fees) for "repairs," but they refuse to tell us what those repairs are or where the money will be going. Can a condo board get away with this? There have been many other questionable practices by this Board, but we are all afraid to air all the dirty laundry for fear that our beautiful building will be devalued by these idiots. Is there a lawyer out there who can help? And has anyone else dealt with such a thing?
