When Your Apartment Doesn't Qualify for Home Owner's Insurance...
It turns out that our apt is the only one in our co-op building that doesn't qualify for home owner's insurance.
We were recently told that this could be remedied by replacing the bars with safety release ones (we're a first floor apt).
The only issue here is that all the other apartments on the first floor will then be required to change their bars, for aesthetic purposes, as they all have two forms of egress (and are therefore insured).
The management company isn't too keen on funding this financial endeavour... Has anyone else come up against this problem?
