Sure, it's just started to feel like fall outside but, like it or not, winter is coming soon. On the bright side: You can start planning your ski getaway now. We're loving the look of this three-bedroom, four-bath lakeside cottage in Vermont's Green Mountains. It's a 25-minute drive from the slopes of Killington, but cross-country trails start right outside the door. Plus it's available for as little as one or two nights.

Surrounded on all sides by the Green Mountain National Forest on 27 acres of private property and facing a lake, this rental includes access to your own private dock—handy when the warm weather returns—and amazing views from inside, too.

There's a fireplace, a gourmet kitchen, and a large screened-in porch. The house is about 2,500 square feet in total. A bunk room with five extra-large built-in bunks makes it a good spot to share with friends.

Plus, the master bedroom has a kitchenette for (for coffee in the morning and a nice stiff cocktail at night). The average nightly price is about $580.
