Escape pick of the week

Keep the vacation going in this Hamptons apartment, for 1/6 of the summer price

Who says your Hamptons escape has to end on Labor Day? Plenty of New Yorkers are making it out to the East End in the fall and winter, when traffic is much lighter and the restaurants are easier to get into, but the charm is still there.

If you want to know just how much more laid-back the area becomes after the summer, take note of the fact that this large one-bedroom, one-and-a-half bath apartment in Sag Harbor, $30,000 a month in August, is going for $5,000 a month in the off season.

The apartment is on the ground level in the interior courtyard of the Watchcase Factory building in Sag Harbor village (photos of the exterior and communal space are above). It's one block from Main Street, which means you're walking distance from stores and restaurants, and plowing a large driveway isn't an issue come the colder months.

You enter the apartment through a private garden. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are open, with warehouse-style details like exposed bricks and beams, and high ceilings.

The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a shower/bath wet room. Unlike most homes out east, you'll have access to a concierge, building manager, and superintendent, as well as a saltwater pool in the fall and spring, a fitness room, a yoga studio, a sauna, a spa room, and a lounge with a fireplace and catering kitchen.

Who's the perfect renter for this place? We're thinking a (very well established) artist or writer who wants to spend a quiet season in a gorgeous locale.
