Who wants serious peace and quiet?

It's the end of August, which means it's time to sit back, take it easy and fantasize about country homes (surely we're not the only ones doing so!).  This house in Carmel is perfect for getaway dreams, with its four bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths, and that middle-of-nowhere feel that is particularly attractive after spending a summer in the crowded, sweaty city.

If sleek and modern is your thing, this might not be ideal, considering it sports a cabin-meets-Game of Thrones vibe. (Note: If you don't like taxidermy some of the photos below might be a little much.) But the outdoor space—over four acres of it—is truly bucolic, with lake and sunrise views throughout. The area is fenced and gated, and includes Sedgewood Club membership. Plus, the house itself feels like a "great camp," like the grandiose family compounds the Adirondacks area is known for; but this one is in Putnam County, less than two hours from the city.

The formal dining room has lake views, plus there's a game room with a slate wet bar, a chef's kitchen with antique pine cabinetry and stainless appliances, and a formal living room with a stone fireplace (there's another in the den/office). The master bedroom suite also overlooks the water, and has a vaulted ceiling, custom woodwork, a private balcony, and a luxurious bath with a hammered copper tub and steam shower.

There's also a fire pit on the edge of the woods for a "real camp" experience. Asking price: $2.4 million.
